V2V-Based Evaluation of Overtaking Risk in Curved Road Conditions

摘要

In this study, we propose an overtaking risk evaluation system for curved roads based on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication. The Do-Not-Pass Warning (DNPW) is a system that generates a warning if a collision with an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane is possible during overtaking. Previous overtaking assistance systems only considered straight roads and were thus limited in their application to curved road conditions. In order to apply a DNPW zonetocurved road conditions, we propose a method of computation based on the effective relative distance using the radius of curvature of the road. We analyzed the proposed overtaking risk evaluation system by comparing the DNPW zones obtained from the proposed system and a simulation. Using the proposed overtaking riskevaluation system, we presented the DNPW zones in typical situations with varying speeds of the vehicle, location of overtaking, and overtaking speed.
