Epididymal spermatozoa were collected from hamsters and were cultured in TALP containing 0 (control), 5 or 10% goat follicular fluid (gFF) for 5 h at 37deg C. The percentage sperm motility, capacitation and acrosome reaction were recorded after 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 h incubation. Sperm motility in the control samples decreased after 1 h incubation and was lower than that in the gFF-containing media after 4 and 5 h incubation (P<0.05). The maximum percent sperm capacitation and acrosome reaction was observed at 3 and 4 h, respectively of incubation in the sperm samples supplemented with 10% gFF. The percentage of capacitated and acrosome reacted spermatozoa in 5% gFF samples was also greater than that of controls after 4 and 3 h incubation respectively(P<0.05). The significance of the results in relation to the regulation of sperm capacitation and acrosome reaction is discussed.
