The phenomenon of heterosis and inbreeding depression are of genetic significance in crop improvement programs. Exploitation of heterosis through the development of commercial hybrid varieties has been a major achievement in plant breeding. The expression of heterosis depends upon the genetic diversity of parental inbred lines/cultivars. Three distinct plant types (DT: determinate; SDT: semideterminate, and IDT: indeterminate) are available in pigeonpea with different inflorescence/flowering nature (Gupta and Kapoor 1991). The present study was aimed to estimate the magnitude of heterosis and inbreeding depression in pigeonpea crosses involving genoyptes of three different growth habit.
