Data collected at the Indian Veterinary Research Centre, Izatnagar during 1975-76 were used to study the performance of Holstein-Friesian [Holstein] cows [sample number not given]. Fresh milk samples were collected during morning and evening milkings. The first sample was taken on day 10 after calving and then every 10 days during lactation. The average content of fat, protein, SNF and TS of milk over 4 lactations was 3.92?.08, 3.20?.05, 8.56?.03 and 12.50?.09%, respectively, and their yields averaged 100.55?.86, 93.36?.01, 224.26?.24 and 324.90?0.64 kg, respectively. Number of lactations or season of calving (winter, summer or rainy) did not significantly affect milk yield or its constituent concentrations.
