Comparative study on productive and reproductive performance of triple crossbred cattle.

Data on growth, production and reproduction traits pertaining to 171 crossbred cows (50% Holstein-25% Jersey-25% indigenous (HJI), 50% Jersey-25% Holstein-25% indigenous (JHI), 50% Swiss Brown-25% Jersey-25% indigenous (BJI)) over a period of 7 years (1974-81) were collected from records at the All India Co-Ordinated Research Project on Cattle, Rahuri. In HJI, JHI and BJI cows, the least squares means for birth weight were 25.02?.4, 24.98?.5 and 30.40?.84 kg; age at first calving, 810.23?2.6, 785.32?2.7 and 808.59?6.2 days; weight at first calving, 438.04?.19, 422.46?.2 and 466.13?.2 kg; first lactation length, 322.97?.7, 312.92?.2 and 329.16?.6 days; first calving interval, 398.59?.27, 379.93?.6 and 379.99?4.2 days; and 300-day milk yield were 3154.41 ?2.59, 2770.70?6.8 and 2902.66?1.6 kg, respectively. Significant differences (P<0.01) were found among breed types for all traits. Period of birth had a significant effect on age at first calving in JHI cows. First calving interval in BJI and HJI cows were significantly influenced by period of calving. Milk yield in HJI and JHI cows was also significantly affected by period of calving.
