摘要

Effect of jacketing on various physiological, hematological and biochemical parameters was studiedduring winter season (mean temperature--12.96 deg C and relative humidity-84%) on eighteen newborncrossbred female calves. The calves were randomly distributed into three groups, viz., control, simplejacketed and paddy straw jacketed. Each calf was kept under the experiment for first 30 days of its age. Theobservations on physiological and hemato-biochemical parameters revealed that heart rates (P<0.01)and respiration rates (P< 0.005) were significant among treatment groups but had no implications onrectal temperatures. The physiological parameters were significantly higher (p < 0.01) during afternoonthan morning in all groups. Among blood leucocytes, the neutrophil percentage was significantly (p < 0.01)lower in paddy straw jacketed group than other groups whereas Eosinophil levels was significantly lower(p<0.05) in both the protected groups. The Immunoglobulin levels in jacketed groups were significantlyhigher (p<0.05) while cortisol and thyroid (T3) levels were significantly lower (p<0.05) compared to controlgroup. These blood parameters revealed that jacketing provided comfort to the newborn calves duringwinter season.
