摘要

Pilonidal sinus is a disease that most commonly arises in the hair follicles of the natal cleft of the sacrococcygeal area. Pilonidal sinus disease (PNSD) mainly affects the young and active people of working age group. It occurs in approximately 0.7% of the population, with peak age of incidence at 16-25 years. PNSD commonly presents as an abscess or painful discharging sinus. The painful nature of the condition causes significant morbidity and leads to repeated visits to the hospital, time off work and loss of earnings. It is therefore important to find a treatment, which has a high success rate. The ideal treatment would be a quick cure with rapid return to work and minimal morbidity and recurrence rate.
