Some years ago, I attended a Friday evening buffet to celebrate the opening of a new Unit at the University I was then working at. The next day I was violently sick. The whole weekend I was in bed, and often in considerable pain. After a ruined weekend, I was better on Monday - so back to work! There, I discovered that many (though not all) of those attending the buffet, had experienced similar symptoms. The University and the medical authorities took this seriously. There was a thorough investigation with questionnaires given to everyone about what they had or had not eaten and what symptoms they had had. Finally, a salmon quiche was identified as the culprit, and presumably steps were taken to improve hygiene and to ensure that this particular mishap would not occur again.
