I read with great interest the recent article by Farhat et al., who showed that polymorphisms of the interleukin (IL)-10 and interferon (IFN)-gamma genes do not appear to be associated with NPC risk in Tunisian populations (Farhat et al., 2008). Despite this, recent studies indicate that nasopharyngeal carcinomas are associated with the altered expression of a vast array of genes. For instance, Zhu et al. have recently confirmed associations between IL-1B gene polymorphisms and nasopharyngeal carcinomas (Zhu et al, 2008).
