Exploring the role of technology strategy in technological innovation through mixed methods research

摘要

Technological innovation for many firms is the primary means for competing in the knowledge-intensive economies of the 21st century. Technology resources not only have high value and are difficult to imitate because of the high levels of tacit knowledge involved, but also undergo rapid rate of technological obsolescence. This paper acknowledges the increasing importance of innovation and role played by technological capabilities by examining the relationship between technological innovation and different dimensions of technology strategy in Indian companies. The paper reports research done in two phases, with a case-based exploratory study leading to a quantitative analysis of the data collected through survey. The paper contributes to literature by giving a structured framework for looking at technology strategy. The framework can be used to understand the logic behind organisations' technology decisions. The survey results though not definitive, but are sufficient to warrant further research in the area.
