Applying object modelling technique to automated visual inspection of automotive compressor parts omission

Automated visual inspection (AVI) system in modern manufacturing fields is complex in its infrastructure and is variable in the user's requirements. To make a high quality AVI system within a reasonable cost, an object-oriented approach inmodelling and design should be applied. This research documents the result of the Object Oriented Automated Visual Inspection (OOAVI) System, an object-oriented application to an automated visual inspection system. We have used Rumbaugh's Object Modelling Technique (OMT) for automated visual inspection system modelling and design to develop an OOAVI system for inspecting automotive compressor parts omission. The OOAVI system we developed controls two different manufacturing cells simultaneously to inspecta shaft part and a cylinder part of compressor respectively with multitasking scheduling. Primitive machine vision operations and heuristics from the model are applied to perform the inspection of the parts. We have found that object-oriented design andmodelling has diminished the time and cost for AVI system development.
