Three-Dimensional Numerical Study of Flow Structures of Impinging Jets in Y-typed Micro-mixers

摘要

The miniaturization of equipment to perform chemical reactions requires the use of micro structures in the design. However, fouling or precipitation can be found in micro structures of such devices, especially for cases when the devices are not designed to avoid unwanted fouling or the chemical protocol is not well suited. Impinging jet micromixers provide a solution against fouling and blocking because the reaction takes place within a free flowing jet outside of the internal microstructures. In this paper a fluid mechanics simulation is thus performed based on a three-dimensional finite volume method in order to optimize the design of the impinging micromixers. It is found that the angle of the jets and the jet speed have an important influence on the mixing quality while the effect of density ratio of the two fluids is insignificant.
