This PD section looks at care for older people experiencing disasters. This is an interesting area to focus on, as we often think of nursing care for older people as being a response to long term or chronic problems. In this section we have three papers which explore the dimensions of disaster. The first explores the ways in which older people can be vulnerable in disasters, because of their poverty, health problems and psychological stress. This paper also explores definitions of disaster, and points out that the consequences can continue long after any event, as people try to rebuild their lives.
