摘要

Quality of life (QOL) has long been a core concern of the nursing profession and is often the focus of nursing research. While defining QOL is never straightforward, this becomes even more challenging when it concerns people with cognitive impairment as a result of dementia. Determining the core components of QOL, and developing technologies to measure them, has challenged both researchers and practitioners interested in improving the lives of people with dementia and of their care-givers. Identifying the most effective interventions to enhance the life of a person living with dementia has been difficult in the absence of data comparing the effectiveness of practice improvements. At the heart of many of the debates is the question of dignity; how to measure it, how to achieve it, and how to maintain it.
