Effects of hypoxic gas mixture in different modes (HGM; 10% oxygen in nitrogen) on the morphometric changes in the functional activity of the thyroid parenchymatous tissue in 3-month-old rats were studied. Hypoxia-induced decrease in the average cross-sectional areas of a follicle and colloid, reduced follicle inner diameter, increased thyroid epithelium height, an increase in a number of thyrocytes in a follicle, resorption vacuoles and in-terfollicular islets, enhanced follicle-colloid index and decreased colloid accumulation index have been shown. Thus, dosed normobaric hypoxia intensifies functional activity and physiological regeneration processes in the thyroid gland of the young animals.
