POTASSIUM-DOPED TUNGSTEN: BEYOND INCANDESCENT LAMP WIRES

摘要

Bubble-strengthened non-sag tungsten wire has been used for decades as a creep-resistant material in incandescent lamps with excel-lent coiling properties at room temperature. The outstanding creep properties are achieved by additions of aluminum, silicon, and potassi-um (AKS-tungsten). Aluminum and silicon are added in the form of an aqueous solution of potassium disilicate, aluminum nitrate, or alu-minum chloride to tungsten blue oxide (TBO), followed by a reduction of the doped blue oxide.~(1,2,3,4) During direct sintering the majority of the additives are removed by evaporation. Despite the high vapor pressure of potassium during sintering it is possible to retain 60-120 ppm metallic potassium in the form of partially filled bubbles. This is achieved by the addition of aluminum and silicon.~(5,6)
