I was born in Greater Boston into a highly educated Jewish family in 1937. We lived in Brookline and moved three times from my early infancy until I finished high school (Figs. 1 and 2). The Edward Devotion School where I received my elementary education let out at 12:00 noon from grades 1 to 6 and 1:00 p.m. from grades 7 to 8. I enjoyed classes and liked all my subjects. I played dodgeball during recess and often played baseball in the school yard after classes were over. I knew many of the children from an 8 to 10 block area who attended the school. The Kennedy family lived two blocks from our house, and President Kennedy had attended Edward Devotion School until third grade. My father knew President Kennedy's father, Joe Kennedy, but more about the Kennedy family later.
