摘要

This paper presents an overview of all the safety features incorporated in an automobile design for the mitigation of accidents. Active Ergonomic features incorporated in a design not only help in avoiding the accidents but also reduces the fatigue caused to the driver which further mitigates the chances of an accident. Dissipation of the kinetic energy forms the guiding principle while designing all the passive safety features. Optimized Stiffness and the material properties substantially help in dissipating the energy at the time of frontal impact, rear impact or a side impact at the time of crash. Seat belts, air bags, knee bolsters, the passive features which prevent injuries to the occupants after a crash has occurred have been dealt with in detail with an overview of the pedestrian safety features.
