A field experiment was conducted on sandy clay loam soil at the CPRS, Gwalior, during Rabi season 2003-04 and 2004-05 to assess the effect of nutrient management and plant growth regulators on quality and nutrient uptake of potato, Field trial was laid out in split-split plot design with two levels of chemical fertilizers viz. 50% and 100% recommended dose of fertilizer-NPK, three levels of bio-fertilizers viz. Azotobactor, phosphate solubalizing bacteria (PSB) and control, three levels of Plant Growth Regulators (PGR) viz. GA_3-100ppm, Ethrel-250ppm and control. The results showed that the N and P content in non-tuber mid tuber portion of potato as well as total uptake of N, P and K was maximum under 100% of recommended dose of fertilizers. Qualitycharacters like dry matter, reducing sugar, total sugar and starch did not shoe any significant variation due to application of chemical fertilizer. Bio-fertilizer had no effect on N and K content as well as on dry matter content of tuber but P content,reducing sugar, total sugar, starch and total uptake of N, p and K was maximum under PSB as compared to Azotobnctor. Application of PGR as foliar spray did not effect N, P and K content in non-tuber and tuber portion. CA, 100ppm resulted to significantmore total nutrient uptake, over Ethrel 250ppm and control while dry matter, reducing sugar, total sugar and starch content was significantly higher under Ethrel 250ppm application over GA_3-100ppm and control.
