There are three types of investment casting foundries in China. The first type is the high value-added category, such as aerospace components, industrial gas turbine, etc. The second type includes approximately 450 foundries which supply castings to overseas markets. They focus on various stainless steel and carbon steel investment castings, such as pumps, valves, hardware, tool parts and other machine parts. These two types of foundries use colloidal silica or ethyl silicate as shell binders in the normal investment casing technology.
