The main attraction of bicable gondola Systems is their ability to replace old reversibles and deliver higher transport capaci-ties while retaining the existing towers and some of the terminal structures. That was also the case with a recent Leitner project in Corvara, Italy. The new lower terminal for the Piz La Villa gondola has been built on the basement structure of the terminal that served the dismantled funicular. From there the line leads straight into the longest span, with an impressive 1250-meter length. All the original towers have been reused, with the tower heads modified to take account of the wider gauge (14 m instead of 10 m). The last line structure before the upper terminal is a pressure frame, which has been built with the shaft inclined towards the terminal so as not to restrict the piste area.
