The most frequent cause of deropement of the haul rope on a sheave train is side wind, which can be unpredictable in terms of timing, strength and gusting, so that the operations manager has a duty of responsibility in terms of vigilance and expertise. Inaccurate sheave train or tower alignment may also be a contributory factor, and under certain conditions twist may build up in the haul rope creating a tendency for the rope to run out of true. True running in the haul rope is always significantly compromised by any disturbance in the rope caused by such factors as out-of-round sheaves, strand-induced vibrations, tower oscillations, carrier swing, etc.
