More and more ropeways are being built in the mountains of the Czech Republic, and that now includes the smaller and medium-size ski areas, too. This is the report promised in ISR 7/2004 on the installations built in the Czech Republic since 2001, a period in which more ropeways have been commissioned in the country than at any other time in the past. In line with the terrain available for skiing in the Czech mountains and the needs of the operating companies, all the new installations are fixed-grip chair-lifts. As part of the general trend towards improved services and facilities in the Czech Republic, they are mostly replacements for old chairlifts and surface lifts; only three have been built to develop new areas. Six of the installations are brand-new chairlifts, while another six are reconditioned systems that have mainly been built as surface lift upgrades (although ski areas are still investing in new surface lifts where it makes sense, of course). Many of the new chairlifts are designed for year-round operation.
