Locked coil rope of the type used for aerial tramway track ropes has a good record for safety. Track rope failure is not normally considered something to be reckoned with. For that reason ropeways have no safety systems to protect against such failure. That is acceptable in view of the high level of redundancy in the ropes used. But that is only true if meaningful maintenance regulations not only exist but are also strictly observed.
