The Nord Stream project, designed to carry Russian gas to Europe under the Baltic Sea on Friday, received the goahead from Moscow to build a section of the pipeline in Russian waters, leaving it needing just two more licenses. The offshore permit for the 123-kilometer section - around one-tenth of the pipe's total length of 1,223 km - was granted by the Russian Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service "following an extensive process of environmental impact assessments."
