The US Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee has passed an amendment seeking to end mandatory royalty relief for deepwater oil and natural gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico as well as deep gas wells drilled in shallower water. The move would give the Interior Secretary discretionary powers to grant royalty relief.
