The Chinese government said Friday that it has signed a contract with Myanmar to build cross-border pipelines that will allow the giant oil consumer to tap its neighbor's oil and gas. The sides also agreed to develop hydropower projects. China National Petroleum Corp. plans to build the oil pipeline to Yunnan province to pump output from its AD-1, AD-6 and AD- 8 Blocks in Myanmar and possibly extend it to Chongqing to feed new refineries. The pipe will start at Kyauk Phyu, north of Ramree, where a deepwater port is being built to support the export plans. A parallel gas pipeline will start from nearby Sittwe.
