European refiners are experiencing mixed fortunes, with positive refining margins seen in Northwest Europe (NWE) and negative returns in the Mediterranean. Although down on recent highs - largely on the back of stronger crude oil prices - an incremental barrel of Brent still reaped a 56¢ per barrel profit in a simple topping unit in Rotterdam on Tuesday. This was down from $3.26 last month, but up from an average for the last five days of 47¢. Profits at a neighboring cracking unit were $3.37/bbl, versus May's $7.02 and the last five days' average of $2.55.
