Two US government agencies that oversee derivatives trading are trying to harmonize regulations in order to increase market transparency, beef up oversight, protect investors and curb excessive speculation (IOD Aug.7,p7). At the first of two days of hearings in Washington on Wednesday, several panelists gave their views on how the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) should cooperate and move forward.
