This year's budget for the Exxon Mobil-led Sakhalin-1 project will total almost $1.98 billion, Sakhalin Governor Alexander Khoroshavin said Wednesday (IOD Apr.9,p6). He added that the Sakhalin-1 consortium - which also includes Russian state-controlled Rosneft (20%), Japanese consortium Sodeco (30%), and India's Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (20%) - had asked for more. He said the consortium wanted an extra $300 million to cover drilling expenses, infrastructure, technical issues and expenses for Exxon's Houston office, which Russia won't meet in full. "We think that ... the people from Houston should either be paid less or should come to Russia to work here and pay taxes," he said.
