A small firm of specialist decorators working on the restoration of one of Europe's finest neo-classical buildings has recruited its first apprentice, thanks to Construction for Merseyside (C/M). Liverpool-based David Thelwell Specialist Decorating has taken on 17 year old Shaun McWaters. His first project is restoring the stunning gold leaf in St George's Hall's small concert room, a space that regularly played host to readings from Charles Dickens during the 1850s. As part of its commitment to creating sustainable job opportunities in the construction industry, C/M offers a service to help employers secure funding for apprentices. The initiative assisted in Shaun's recruitment and helped his new employer secure funding for the apprenticeship from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and Source Training.
