摘要

A quantitative method of life cycle assessment (LCA) has been developed to enable an energy audit of the process of material recycling to be carried out. An equation has been derived to provide information on the optimum balance between adverse environmental effects and beneficial recycling/reuse capabilities. The parameter analysed is the embodied energy of a material or product, but the LCA could equally be applied to other environmental burdens, such as CO_2, SO_X, and NO_X emissions.
