The dairy industry is not a "Field of Dreams." Just because you make it, does not mean consumers will buy it. Consumers' financial woes during this past year confirmed that if a product does not provide purpose, it can be cut from the shopping list. As a result, purpose-driven product development has been the talk of the food and beverage industry, and has managed to keep new product roll out numbers strong. Worldwide food product launches recorded in the Innova Database between June 2008 and June 2009 were up 7.3 from the previous 12 months, despite the economic downturn, reports Innova Market Insights, The Netherlands.
