Posco India's 12-million tonne per annum steel plant project in Orissa has been hanging fire for months as a result of local resistance and legal wrangles. Chairman & managing director Soung Sik Cho was also in the eye of a storm late last week after reports that he was pulling the project from the state. This wassubse quently denied. Soung spoke with FE's Ninad D Sheth at his office in Bhubaneswar about the stalled project Excerpts: What is the current status of the Posco project in Orissa? We are optimistic about this project going ahead. We believe that the scale and massive investments that this project requires will bring prosperity to the state. The sheer size and the complex interlinked growth that it will bring are not properly understood. We must bear in mind that when Posco set up its flrstlarge project in Korea back in the 70s, the Korean economy was similarly underdeveloped.
