摘要

The standards for ZigBee, a short-range wireless technology designed for home and industrial applications, have been around for two or three years. But it is only in the last 12 months or so that the supporting chipsets have started to become commercially available. They - and their successors - will come to offer an interesting alternative to WiFi and Bluetooth in applications where there is a desire to replace costly but relatively low bandwidth wires with a wireless network. In a household automation application, for example, a light switch would simply become a ZigBee device which sends a message to the ceiling light, or a heating thermostat a device which sends a wireless message to the boiler.
