Perhaps the most significant event of the past year in the Nordic mineral processing industry, and indeed in the world mineral processing industry, was the bid from Finland's Metso Minerals (formerly Nordberg) to acquire Svedala Industries of Sweden.Nordberg, which had been part of the Finnish Rauma Group, became Metso Minerals when Rauma merged with the other Finnish industrial major, Valmet in 1999 and named the new entity Metso. Metso is an engineering company that serves customers in selected areas of the process industry, namely rock and mineral processing, fiber and paper technology, and automation and control technology.
