摘要

Alumina is the intermediate product between bauxite ore and aluminum metal. It is very high purity Al_2O_3. Quoting from Industrial Minerals and Rocks, 1983 i Edition "The refining of bauxite into alumina by the rocess is accomplished by digesting bauxite in caustic soda to dissolve the Al_2O_3 in the bauxite and to remove impurities. The dissolved Al_2O_3 is precipitated as aluminum hydroxide and calcined to alumina". That says it all in a minimum of words but it takes plants costing hundreds of millions of dollars plus chemicals, energy, parts and supplies, labor, technical ability, and management to accomplish this simplicity.
