KGHM Polska Miedz has asked ABB to revamp one of the hoists at the Rudna copper mine in southwestern Poland. Work on the Rudna II hoist, in one of the main production shafts, will take place during a 16-day shutdown during December 2003 and January 2004. During this short window, ABB will deliver a new power supply, thyristor converters, control system, and a new digital hoist monitor. In addition, ABB will install a 5.5-meter pulley on the shaft, complete with bearings and a disc brake system. The company originally supplied the brake, drive and control system for this hoist in 1972.
