FELUWA's pump design is based on more than 25 years of experience in design, fabrication and servicing of oscillating displacement pumps for mining duties. The firm's units are well-proven in mining for handling difficult mineral sludge in applications with high solids content. FELUWA recently fabricated what it claims to be the world's largest hose diaphragm piston pumps for a Chinese aluminum company, each of which deliver 260 m~3/h of bauxite slurry at a pressure of 100 bar and require 1.150 kW of motor power. FELUWA pumps feature a flat diaphragm combined with a hose diaphragm, a design that provides high safety and availability. Unlike conventional diaphragm piston pumps, the conveyed fluid is carried in a linear flow path through the hose diaphragm, coming into contact only with the diaphragm and the delivery valves. In step with the piston stroke, the diaphragms are subjected to a pulsating action, comparable with that of a human vein. The company notes that hose diaphragm pumps do not allow sedimentation, thus extending service life beyond that of flat diaphragms.
