Northern Orion Resources has received a positive, updated feasibility study from Hatch Ltd. and Amec that supports development of a 90,000-mt/d, USD2.05-billion, open-pit mining operation at the company's 100%-owned Agua Rica copper-gold-molybdenum project in northwestern Argentina. The project is located 35 km east of the operating Bajo de la Alumbrera mine, where ownership interests are Xstrata 50%, Goldcorp 37.5%, and Northern Orion 12.5%. The updated feasibility study is based on an initial study completed in 1997 by BHP and Northern Orion. Northern Orion acquired BHP Billiton's 72% remaining interest in Agua Rica in 2003.
