selFrag AG, a member of Switzerland's Ammann Group, has launched the world's first commercial system for selective fragmentation using electrodynamic high-voltage pulsed power. The system, called selFrag-Lab, is designed for laboratory preparation of kilogram-size samples of solid composite materials such as kim-berlite, natural rock, concrete, and incinerator ash. Selective fragmentation has significant advantages over alternative preparation techniques, such as lab-scale crushing and milling, according to selFrag, and offers new possibilities for the analysis of mineral samples. Continuous selFrag-Lab systems will enter the market before the end of 2007, said Werner Steiner, head of business development.
