In November 2008, Sandvik Mining and Construction was awarded a contract from PotashCorp to supply a fleet of Sandvik MF420 Borer Miners for its new Piccadilly potash mine in New Brunswick, Canada. The contract represents the largest single order for Sandvik's softrock mining business to date. PotashCorp currently operates a large number of Sandvik Roadheaders (formerly Voest-Alpine, acquired in 1996) in its existing New Brunswick potash mine and a large fleet of Borer Miners in its Saskatchewan mines. The MF Borer Miner product line evolved following Sandvik's purchase of Eimco's mining equipment division in 1989. Its current Borer Miner range includes models from the top-of-the-line, 42-ft-long MF420 down to the 31-ft-long MF120. The smaller models, including the MF120, MF120-4 and MF220 are currently in service in various Canadian and Brazilian potash mines and the larger MF320, equipped with automatic degasification drills, has been deployed in Russia. The company's bolter-miners as well as diesel-powered support equipment also have been put to work in potash operations.
