Despite a spreading global fall-off in corporate earnings and deepening distress in the world's financial markets, the demand for mined commodities-ranging from potash to precious metals to molybdenum and more-continues without abatement. A significant portion of these commodities will come from underground mines, and mine operators face a constant challenge to get to the ore quickly. To this end, Sandvik focused on speed as it designed its latest jumbo drill rig. The new DD530 is a three-boom electro-hydraulic jumbo built for fast and accurate drilling in tunneling and cavern excavations ranging from 12 to 75 m~2 in cross section. The basic DD530 is powered by a standard 110-kW (148 hp) diesel matched with a Clark Hydrodynamic transmission. If more carrier power is required, Sandvik offers a 170-kW diesel option. With three drilling booms that provide wide drilling coverage and a high frequency HFX5T rock drill, Sandvik says the DD530's machine's capabilities can help accelerate any mine's development drilling program.
