Consumer demand and new safety regulations are driving the development of new automotive safety features-from electronic stability control to newairbag technology.In this issue of Engineering Design we feature insights from Michael L Sanders,DuPont's global director of automotive safety.DuPont,working with industry associations,insurance and advocacy groups,was instrumental in getting auto safety provisions included in a new U.S.highway bill called the "Transportation Equity Act for the 2ist Century",passed by the U.S.Congress in July 2005 and soon to be made law.The bill sets guidelines for NHTSA(The U.S.National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)to complete rule making in many broad areas of safety improvement.
