摘要

An outline of a computer-aided component selection methodology is presented that will be available to the systems designer in the design phase to help him/her realize near optimal design solutions. In this study, a modified technique for orderpreference by similarity to the ideal solution was used to select a set of components (for a given system layout) among approved lists of manufacturers' catalogs so that all design specifications were satisfied. After generating the initial list of thedesired components, some of the clearly best components in the catalog list were separated out. A genetic algorithm was then used to successfully select an optimal solution. The proposed hybrid optimization algorithms were implemented in a tube selectionproblem that is presented in this article as a case study.
