As a design engineer, the chances are you will have been emailed a PDF file recently, Current analysis suggests that more than half the files received by engineers are PDFs and this figure is rising all the time. Undoubtedly, the ubiquitous PDF format is changing the way engineers work. It is estimated that there is an installed base of over 500 million free Adobe Readers and countless millions of downloadable PDFs on the internet. Full copies of Acrobat are to be found on 20 per cent of engineers' desktops.
