In the wake of the Walkerton tragedy, in which F. Coli bacteria from drinking water caused six deaths and sickened as many as 2000 people, the Ontario government has announced a new drinking water regulation requiring a professional engineer's report every three years for all municipal water works. The Drinking Water Protection Regulation puts into law the Ontario Drinking Water Standards, which were updated and toughened to reflect the most current procedures and expertise.
