摘要

A recent study on human resources management in consulting engineering concludes that the industry generally under values its importance, including under training and under paying employees. The Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada (ACEC) commissioned the 400,000 dollars study from Pacific Leadership Inc., KPMG Management Consultants and Revay and Associates. It included input from 300 consulting engineering industry CEOs, managers, employees and clients, engineering students and educators, and government representatives. The study found that the industry: lacks financial resources for human resources development, due to declining domestic demand for its services; lacks job security and career progression opportunities; pays salaries 15-25 percent lower than those paid in other professional service sectors; provides inadequate training in such future skill requirements as business and project management, communications and leadership, and takes a conservative approach to management that inhibits innovation, learning and change.
