The Canadian Science and Engineering Hall of Fame will soon spring into virtual existence on CD-ROM. The Canadian Council of Professional Engineers and the National Research Council are developing a multimedia version of the hall with photographs, video clips and sound bites of the achievements that marked each member's career. Peter Jollymore, P. Eng., vice-president of planning and marketing at NBTel, chairs the committee of educators, scientists and engineers that is guiding development of the CD-ROM. He told Engineering Dimensions that a virtual hall of fame is in many way preferable to a physical one: "The thing that struck me is if you have a physical hall of fame located somewhere like Ottawa, you limit its audience to people who happen to visit that city. But by doing the hall of fame electronically, the potential audience becomes quite large. And down the road, we can put it on a Web site to reach an even bigger audience."
