An increasingly fierce battle for market share is being waged in China between state - run refiners and the rising group of independent "teapot" players -- and the latter appear to be gaining considerable ground. In a recently released industry survey, state - run China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), the country's second - biggest refiner, said the teapots -- buoyed by their newfound crude import privileges -- had already increased their share of China's gasoline and diesel markets from 18.9 in 2015 to 23.6 last year, and were set to make further inroads to claim a 30 share for both key products by 2020.
